2016 ANNUAL PARTY
Due to the enthusiasm of our wonderful Village residents, the March 5, 2016 annual party with the theme, See You In The Comic Section, was a great success. About 80% of those attending came dressed in their favorite comic character costume. Huge
cash prizes, “So huge we are not even certain they are real,” quipped
Greg Hanke, committee person, were awarded to the best in each of four
categories.
MOST COMPLETE COSTUMES were won by #1, Andy and Evelyn Arnot in their unique rendition of Fred and Wilma Flintstone. #2 in the Most Complete Costume category was won by Chris and Gloria Howells, as Little Lu Lu and Tubby.
MOST CREATIVE COSTUME prize was won by Eve Arnot, with #2 going to Susan Bienfang as Terry (in Terry and the Pirates)
MOST EMBARRASSSING AWARD went to Don Bentine with #2 going to Arnie Fenrite.
HONORABLE
MENTION was given to Elton Conway, #2 to Mary Akers dressed as Olive
Oil, and #3 to Shirley Engbrecht wearing her original Orphan Annie
costume which she had worn in the seventh grade.
A trio of outside, impartial judges determined the winners in all categories.
We
are convinced that a great party consists of five elements; a good
idea, an enthusiastic committee, music, excellent food, and fun loving
participants. All five elements were present on Saturday night. Folks are still tapping their feet to the Ballad of Davy Crockett, and humming “the sun’l come out tomorrow.”
The idea for a Comic Section party had been floating around in my mind for several years, but I needed the right committee. This year was “the year.” Thanks to our perfect committee, the party was a fun filled night. Committee
members include; Jeannine and Jim,(Mr. Davy Crockett on the guitar)
Albach, Roger and Peggy (Wonder Woman) Borgwardt, Barb and Chuck, (Mr.
piano player) Bentley, Diane and Greg(Popeye the Sailor Man) Hanke, and
Jim and Shirley Mootz, (Bozo the clown and his girlfriend, Little Red Riding Hood)
A
parade of comic characters made their way through the noisy crowd,
hoping to be judged best in some category, while a group of die hard
singers entertained us with a medley of songs including; Popeye the
Sailor Man, The Ballad of Davy Crockett, and Tomorrow.
Steak and Chicken Kabob dinners were furnished by Zoe’s Kitchen of Scottsdale. In addition to Kabobs, we enjoyed Rice Pilaf, Greek Salad, Pita bread, and Chocolate cake.
Yours
truly was honored by the appearance of her partner, Daddy Warbucks, who
attended the party with the assistance of eldest daughter, Judy
Miracle. It was truly a rewarding experience for me.
