James C. Erickson
Age 84, of Cloquet, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. He was born February 14, 1933 in Bemidji to Hjalmer and Irene Erickson. Jim played football and graduated from Bemidji State College in 1955, and received his master's degree from St. Cloud State. He taught and coached football in Argyle, MN until 1958. Jim then served Carlton High School for 34 years as a teacher, football, track, and basketball coach; as well as Athletic Director and counselor. He was very honored to have the Carlton football field dedicated in his honor. Jim enjoyed summers at Eagle Lake near Cromwell, and the winter months at Village of Apache Wells in Mesa, AZ.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, John, Douglas, and Richard. He is survived by his wife, Joan, who he married in 1964; son, Kraig (Christine) Erickson and their children, Stephanie and Jacob; daughter, Rebecca (Dan) Perzichilli and their children, Leah, Mark, and Micah; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. The visitation will resume on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 (his birthday) from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. See the family online guest book at www.nelsonfuneralcare.net. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the James C. Erickson Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Carlton High School.
Snowbird open results and comments
Thanks to Jim and Barb Erie for making the arrangements to play at Dacotah Ridge and Redwood Falls.
Mary Akers celebrated her birthday at the group dinner Sunday evening. She is the youngest looking 90 year old I have ever seen. (See pictures)
Jan Nielsen, Marc Nielsen, and Harland Wills canceled on Sunday because they thought it would be rained out. They are good golfers but poor weather forecasters.
Donald Trump did not show up. He has a lot on his plate lately and didn't want to interrupt his vacation
The best team on Sundays two ball game was Dave Guise, Sheryl Brown, Been Trochlil, and Lee Hain at -11. Sheryl Brown had the only birdie of the day.
If Dick Akers, Lee Hain, Jim Engbrecht, Russ Martinson, Byron Johnson, and Geno Wincek want to shoot their age at Dacotah Ridge, they are going to have to live until they are more than 100 years old.
The winners of the 80+ year old competition on Monday were Marc Nielsen, Dick Akers, and Ben Trochlil. They tied with a score of 92.
Jan Nielsen had the low gross score for ladies (95) and Elaine Christianson had the low net (80). Based on Darlene Femrite' s score, she probably wished she went shopping with the ladies who didn't golf. Maybe Arnie wished he went with them too.
The only golfers to break 90 both days were Dave Guise from Wisconsin, Tom Madden ( my friend from Illinois), and yours truly. Obviously the best golfers come from East of the Mississippi River.
The most honest golfer was Bob Nelson (HDC of 24). His net 70 on Monday matched par for the course.
Virgil Christianson and I would like handicaps increased for this event.
I think everyone in attendance had a good time.

2017 ANNUAL PARTY
The Christiansons, Halvorsons, Susan and Hazel, Seehafers, Feinrites, Billehus, Johnsons, and Pat Beck, did a bang up job of hosting the On Broadway show on March 24. The rumor is true. “If you want something done, just ask Virgil.”
Good ole down to earth food was catered and served by Midwest Meats, following a social hour and Trivia Contest.
We saw several gents in tuxedos, with their ladies in fine attire on their arms. There were also many in costumes apropo to the Broadway theme.
Performances by Guillermo Ontiveros, Tenor, and Jung Csuy, Soprano, Pianist, Director, were most enjoyable. They filled their dialogues with bits of humor, as they entertained us with both solos and duets. A wonderful addition to their presentation, in my estimation was the Audience Sing Along. Yet today, I am still humming, GOODNIGHT MYSOMEONE, GOODNIGHT, from Music Man. Remember it?
“Goodnight my someone, goodnight my love.
Sleep tight my someone, sleep tight my love.
Our star is shinning it’s brightest light, for goodnight, my love, for goodnight.
Sweet dreams be yours dear, If dreams there be.
Sweet dreams to carry you close to me.
I wish they may, and I wish they might.
Now goodnight my someone, goodnight.”
Our many thanks to the committee who put on this pleasurable event. Kudos to all of you.
